JOY-filled Celebrations

SJB School students, families & staff have had much to celebrate over the past week. Last week, we gathered together for several events in celebration of Principal Mrs. Sue Clausen's decade of JOY-filled service to St. John's School and to wish her well on her upcoming retirement. This week, on "Pastor's Day", SJB School students and staff honored Pastor Fr. Michael Skluzacek with a salad and dessert luncheon and hand-made cards by each student.
Retirement events for Mrs. Clausen included an all-school Mass said in her honor, a student program of songs tailored for her, and an evening open house reception hosted by St. John's SAC (School Advisory Committee) and PTO (Parent Teacher Organization). In addition, Mrs. Clausen was awarded a "JOY-filled Leadership and Discipleship" award in honor of her dedication and service to the St. John the Baptist community, and presented with gifts from school families and alumni including a stained glass piece entitled "Fire of His Love," created by SJB alumna Margaret Harmon (see photo below), to hang in the school along with a plaque in tribute to Mrs. Clausen's years of dedicated service.
Many thanks and wishes for JOY to both Fr. Skluzacek and Mrs. Clausen for their service to St. John's School!

Kickball and BBQ with Fr. VanDenBroeke - Wed., May 22nd, 6 p.m., Vet's Park/SJB Parking Lot - Come one, come all to enjoy a game of kickball and a community-wide barbecue. Please BRING YOUR OWN MEAT AND A SIDE TO SHARE. Beverages and grills will be provided.
Priestly Ordination Mass - Sat., May 25th, 10 a.m., Cathedral of Saint Paul, St. Paul - Deacon Spencer Howe and Deacon Andrew Stueve, who both served at St. John's last year, will be ordained to the priesthood with eight other seminarians. All are invited to come witness this beautiful sacrament. All are also welcome to attend Fr. Howe's first Holy Mass of Thanksgiving on Sun., May 26th at 10 a.m. at St. John's, followed by a light reception in St. Joseph's Hall.

Summer J-Care

Summer will be upon us before we know it....and at SJB, that means SUMMER J-CARE!! Our J-Care team is already planning many fun activities and outings, from swimming to field trips and service projects. (All SJB School students entering grades K-8 are eligible for J-Care, but must re-register each summer and school year).
