What is God Calling You to This Summer?

What is God Calling You to This Summer?

Prior to summer break, St. John's Principal Sue Clausen visited with next year's eighth grade class regarding what they believe God is calling them to do this summer. Here, in their own words, are some of their thoughts:

"This summer I want to become closer to God (piety). Last summer I found myself closer than I have ever been with God, and with that came the courage to try new things....my goal is to stay close to God and know that he is always there to help me through those tough times, and always know no matter how I feel, He is always there." "I believe that God and the Holy Spirit are calling me to counsel. I have [siblings]; we all look out for each other, but sometimes we don't get along! So someone has to step up....""...[God] wants me to have the fortitude to keep on going even if times get hard....He also wants me to understand that there are some things we can not control in our lives...that we just need to deal with.""This summer, I think God wants me to help people. By helping people, I can have more understanding of why God put humans on Earth. I think He also wants me to have courage to stand up for people who can't stand up for themselves." "This summer, I plan to...learn more knowledge of the Lord....I also plan to say a decade of the rosary each night." "This summer I would like to focus on understanding the Holy Spirit and the stories in the bible more clearly. I can do this by reading chapters of the bible daily.""This summer, I want to practice the gift of understanding....when working with little kids, you need to be understanding when a kid makes a mistake or does something wrong.""I think that....God is calling me to learn more about myself and his creation through prayer and experience....I will need prayer and the Holy Spirit to guide me along and help me to gain knowledge about who I am and the world around me.""I think this summer God is calling me to work on my understanding of his creation and teachings. Over the summer I can work on my understanding of his teachings by reading the bible and going to church on Sundays. To understand his creation, I can sit and listen to it or camp in it. I can also take a nature hike.""This summer I think God would want me to gain fortitude. During summer I plan on volunteering at a local nursing home....then later in the summer, I hope to help my neighboors with lawn mowing, babysitting and much more." "I want to work on understanding over the summer. Understanding can be hard or easy at times. It can be easy if someone has a similar situation, or agrees with you.....I want to learn how to be understanding no matter the situation."
