Dear SJB Friends and Parents,
Here is the first of what I hope will be a new way of communicating with families. I have opened up a Blog for us at St. John's to allow a format for questions, comments and just generally more interaction with and between parents. I sometimes feel like the school can provide expertise on many areas but not on all and that many of you have experience, wisdom and knowledge that might be helpful to share with one another. I think about concerns that parents raise sometimes with me regarding homework practices, backpacks, suggestions for getting children to read or ways of encouraging math facts - these are all questions that many of you may have some interesting and unique suggestions to share with each other.
A couple of ground rules for us to use the blog:
this is not a place to complain about the teachers - if you have particular concerns please seek out the person directly or see or talk with me. Please do not use this for a personal soap box.
The Town Hall Meeting that we had about 6 weeks ago generated much discussion - I was thrilled with the turnout of our families and hope that many of your questions were answered or you had an opportunity to learn some new things. Your thoughts?
As I walked around the school this week these were a few things that I saw:
- I saw 6th graders discovering what DNA looks like in the science lab with Ms. Morinville.
- I saw 5th graders using a catalog to learn about items of clothing in Spanish with Mrs. Warren.
- I saw 1st graders singing a cowboy song in music class with Mr. Mangan to learn pitch.
- I saw 2nd graders having a Junior Achievement lesson from Mrs. Langner.
- I saw 4th graders cleaning out their lockers to help them be better organized.
